Description: "05/30/1965: William John Beattie, leader of the Canadian Nazi Party, organized a rally at Allen gardens in Toronto. Apparently Samuel Kaplan jumped on Beattie's back as he was being escorted to a police wagon. They tried to troop Nazi flags through the park. The group was mobbed by spectators and several members of the party were beaten with their own flagpoles. An estimated 4,000 people had gathered to hear Beattie speak. About 30 Jewish groups organized a counter-rally and many more turned up to watch. A number of people were arrested and charged. Eight men (self-styled Nazis) were charged with a variety of offenses including causing a disturbance, assault, and carrying weapons."
